On the 23.11.08 I, along with 20 odd people, won the chance of seeing an advance press screening of “Twilight” Read on to find out about the day… (its actually quite interesting if say so myself!)
Waking up earlier than 7am on a Sunday isn’t exactly my ideal thing to do, but it was for Twilight, so I could easily make sacrifices. Plus I was too excited to sleep. xD
I shot out of bed and looked out of my window, to my surprise, there was snow. What a perfect start to the day!
I immediately texted my best friend (probably waking her up…my bad!) and then texted Alice. (One of my best friends and fellow ticket winner)
After I got ready and after waiting impatiently for my dad to finish watching the cricket, we left home. (I managed to walk across the ice without slipping…achievement!)
The whole journey there I was growing more impatient by the minute. I sat at the back, texting Alice and listening to music to help calm the excitement (It didn’t).
What seemed like hours later, we finally reached leicester square. The only bad thing? We couldn’t find any parking which led to me getting more impatient (even though there was still an hour or so left). My parents probably sensed my growing annoyance and so my dad stopped the car and my mum and jumped out and hurried to burger king (it was raining at this point). I walked in to burger and I saw someone standing up...Alice. We immediately recognized each other and grinned. I approached Alice and we stood there for a second, just grinning. And sadly, instead of tackling each other to the ground like we had planned, we settled for a nice Emmett style hug. Our mothers were probably rolling their eyes at us but hey… we were excited xD!
So after the 5 minute hug (I don’t actually know if it was that long =P) we sat at a table, looking around the whole of burger king and realizing that most of these people were probably there for the screening. Who else would come to Burger king at 9am on a Sunday in London eh?
They probably knew I was there for the screening, what with my twilight t-shirt and the big grins plastered on both of our faces. Anyway after waiting around in burger king for about 20 minutes, we recognized Louise (The lady who organised our tickets) standing outside of burger king, we called our mums over (yes my dad was still searching for parking…crazy stuff). We all waited in the queue to get our tickets, Alice and I with our arms linked and freezing to death. Finally we got to the front of the queue and got our tickets. They were amazing, it’s the size of a bookmark (picture at the end of the blog).
I said my goodbyes to my mum (no I didn’t make her stand around in burger king, she went to Westfields with my dad!) and we then waited outside of the cinema. We were finally let in and waited in a queue for about ten minutes and were then told that people were in separate screens, we looked at our tickets and luckily Alice and I were in the same screen. When we made it to the front of the queue they handed us two booklets (Information on literally everything about the filming process) and, to our relief, did not take our tickets. We had to go up to three floors and on every floor there was a twilight poster ro two. We got our cameras out and started snapping away. We finally made into our screen and saw something on the seats, we rushed over and saw that there were free movie cover books of twilight and the best thing… an apple! We laughed at that and got more excited (If that was possible!). We settled into our seats and got comfy.
We then commented on how we’ll have a whole two hours of Twilight and the lady next to us goes “Actually its two hours and two minutes” she grinned and pointed to one of the booklets which stated that. We grinned… never forget the extra two minutes! She also told us that she had been to a My Chemical Romance concert 7 times… lucky thing!
A representative then came out and talked to us. He told us cool facts like how we’re kicking James Bond and High School Musical threes asses in the box offices in America (though he didn’t use those exact words…) he also told us that there’s a camera crew out there who want to interview us after the movie. Very cool.
After about 20minutes the lights dimmed and the crowd shut up (by crowd I mean Alice and I, we were the loudest there… we had our own Mexican wave going xD). The credits then came on screen and I think then it sunk that we really are watching Twilight… the movie we had waited so long for…
After two hours and two minutes, the lights came back on and Alice and I just looked at each other and whispered “Wow” I think we were frozen to our seats for about 5 minutes, just trying to get our head around…everything! (And trying to get all of our stuff together….)
We then went out to the lobby where we saw everyone standing, there was different emotions all around… people crying, people in a state of shock, people grinning (Poor Jasper would have gone crazy by now!) but you didn’t need Edward to know that everyone was thinking the same thing… that was amazing.
We were then handed forms to sign giving the crew permission to put our interviews in TV and Alice, her mum and I waited patiently (Yes I waited patiently) in the queue to be interviewed.
When it was our turn Alice and I linked arms again and walked up to stand by the awesome twilight cardboard cut-out, where the film crew were. I won’t bore you with everything from the interview, but some highlights:
Interviewer: What do you think of Robert Pattinson as Edward?
Us: -turns and gestures to Edward in cut-out- Look at him! He’s perfect!
Interviewer: How many times do you think you’ll be seeing it this Christmas?
Us: A lot of times.
Me: Its going to be a very expensive Christmas for my dad –nods-
(At this point everyone laughs and the interviewer tries to look for my dad… haha)
Interviewer: Okay and finally, sum up Twilight in one word?
Me: Amazing.
Alice: Um…sparkly?
Interviewer: Well that’s new. – everyone laughs-
So obviously that wasn’t the whole of the interview, just some of the highlights of it.
The interview itself lasted around 5-7 minutes which took us to 2 o’clock. We (Well we meaning Alice, her mum and I) headed to burger king for lunch. Talking about…yeah you guessed it, Twilight.
We then headed outside to wait for my parents… they took around 15-20 minutes. So we were standing around in the freezing cold/ rain, and poor Alice was in need of gloves. Finally I saw my mum and Alice and I hugged and said our goodbyes as we were going in different directions.
It was a perfect day. I don’t regret losing my voice (due to freezing to death) for the rest of that week. We had such an amazing time and i really have to thank Alice for being great company and for putting up with me xD.
A HUGE thankyou to Louise, without whom my perfect day wouldn’t even be possible. I am forever grateful.
Haha sounded like I’m making an acceptance speech!
Random facts of the day:
- I had at least, more than 5 comments about how my shirt was totally awesome and how people loved it and questions about where I got it from. (Hot Topic for those who are still wondering)
- Some people are VERY cruel to birds.
- There was a Bella Italia right next to the cinema…ooh freaky much! xD
- It was a perfect “Forks” day, rain and cold and snow. Perfect weather conditions for Twilight if you ask me.
- Those little market things do not sell gloves apparently.
Wow I rambled. So if you read that whole thing…credit goes to you! –Hands all of you virtual cookies-
But yes, if anyone that was there and is reading this, let me know!
Much love,
Priy
